PARTICIPANT WP1/5

ChloƩ Guerbois

ChloƩ has been working in Hwange are since 2008 when she studied the inter-dependences between Hwange National Park and its periphery as part of her PhD. The apparent resistance and resilience of subsistence farmers on the edge of this park inspired her to study the contributions of human-nature relationships to the sustainability of social-ecological systems. She integrated the Sustainability Research Unit of the Nelson Mandela University (South Africa) in 2015 from where she is developing transdisciplinary research projects on conservation and sustainability across southern Africa.

What is your role/relationship in the project?
I have been working in Hwange for the past 10 years, mostly at the interfrace between the protected and the communal areas. My expertise lies in inter- and trandisciplinary approach to undertsand the functional linkages that influence the functioning and resilience of social-ecological systems including protected areas. I will be involved in the WP1.

What are your expectations?
Just a joyfull collaborative learning experience !

What excites you about the project?
I am very interested to see how the transdiciplinary, theoretical and applied aspects of the project come together in a sense thatā€™s meaningful to everyone, including the locals.
